introducing vintage housewares

When I first began selling vintage on Etsy almost 7 years ago, I was single, unsettled and pretty much was obsessed with collecting and selling vintage. These days, my life is different in every way compared to what it once was. I'm now married, with a three year old son, currently pregnant (due in June) and needless to say I have an abundance amount of housework, craft projects and appointments to keep up with, which sometimes result in M.H. taking a backseat. Now, I understand that this is no way to run a 'business' and each day I truly try to muster the energy required to put the necessary work in. The truth of the matter is, I'm a 'one woman show' and I really shouldn't spread myself thin nor should I stress over completing my never-ending To-Do list.

For the past few years, I've spent less time at thrift stores and more time in the kitchen, baking, cooking and tidying up. The kitchen has become my haven. A place where I can unwind, drinking a glass of wine while stirring a pot of homemade marinara sauce or create something new and delicious by testing a cake recipe. So, when I thought to introduce a few vintage houseware items to the shop, it wasn't farfetch in my opinion. I love shopping for rustic, pre-owned home goods in addition to beautiful antique jewelry and the occasional vintage formal gown. Just as my life is ever evolving, I think it's important to evolve Mod Human too. I hope you like my new finds for the shop, and even more to make a purchase and give these wonderful treasures a new home.

shop update: collection 2

orange satin evening bag

emerald green necklace

50s white evening bag

navajo southwestern earrings jewelry

40s black beaded purse bag

Collection 2 is now available in the vintage shop. I'm satisfied with the growth of new inventory I've collected over the past week and super excited to share my discoveries with you. In other news, I'm happy it's officially Autumn and the cooler weather has taken it's rightful place here in the south. Knitting, drinking Earl Gray and collecting vintage consumes a chunk of my spare time, the other portion is consumed by mommy/wife duties. Therefore, I hope it's not too long until there's another vintage update.

shopping list:
vintage autumn copper evening bag
emerald green necklace
beaded envelope evening clutch
sterling silver earrings
corde' black beaded handbag

Shop Update I 11.26

1960s navy blue wool coat

1970s red riding hood fringe cape

1950s sailor knit sweater

1950s mohair sweater blouse

1960s fair isle cardigan sweater
One would typically find me moping around the house in an adorable vintage sweater and black cigarette pants, and when it's time to run errands, I'm wrapped in an oversize poncho or wearing a sturdy, wool coat. Sounds familiar... these things can now be found in the shop.

Sweet Bliss

There are moments in life when one experiences true bliss. The day I received this lovely photograph from my dearest customer Roxanne (on her wedding day) wearing a vintage dress she purchased from my shop.... well... for me that was pure bliss! It makes what I do, so much more meaningful and gives me a great deal of joy.
Congratulations to you Roxanne!
I wish you and your husband many years of sweet bliss!

Brooch Assortment

A couple of days ago, my mother took me to a little spot I would like to refer to as 'vintage heaven'.... as it truly was paradise for a person like myself who is completely obsessed with vintage! This little space was located inside of a flea market located off the beaten path (just 45 min from Atlanta) ... The owner was such a delight and made my shopping experience not only pleasurable but a wonderful 'learning' experience as well. I learned all sorts of things from the best places to shop for vintage, old labels that are highly wanted and even how to dye old Corde bags that have been stained due to many decades of wear.
Thank goodness I had my mother and grandma with me to watch baby J.J , since it took me nearly an hour to browse the tiny shop.... and trust me when I 'write' this was not nearly enough time needed to see EVERYTHING this store had to offer! I did manage to purchase a lot of antique brooches, necklaces and bracelets for the shop. Every piece has been photographed, however due to being a new mommy, time is very limited and I will not be able to add these pieces until Tuesday morning at the latest.
In the meantime, please enjoy this photo of an assortment of brooches that are patiently waiting to be added to the boutique.

Hat Collection

May is here and where I live the summer has finally arrived. For me, this usually means whimsical summer dresses, cute sandals and the perfect vintage hat... My personal collection is constantly growing, however I did reserve a few of my recent finds for the shop. Why don't you have a look yourself :)

Baubles and Bits ...

baubles and bits
(1920s-1940s)

I've recently moved outside of Atlanta into a more quite, family oriented environment just two weeks ago and there's nothing more exciting then exploring a new side of town. Yesterday, (after an extensive internet search) I decided to pack up the car with tons of snacks (remember I'm pregnant) and drove to all the 'best spots' in my new neighborhood for vintage and antique shopping. It was such a joy to find so many lovely things... But what's even more amazing is all the antique jewelry I discovered... and this almost never happens! I left a ton of exquisite pieces behind... however, I do plan to scoop up the remaining of the baubles and bits on my next shopping trip.
Above is a preview of the wonderful estate jewelry pieces I purchased for the shop.
I hope you love them as much as I do :)
